Stress Management

10 Spiritual Stress Relievers Prescribed by God

By:  Rev. Norman Vincent Hill

Stress or anxiety is one of the most frustrating realities to manage.  It comes from so many different directions, including but not limited to the workplace, home, marriage, finances, and relationships.  Often, this pressure is complicated by the compounding effect of multiple stressors at once.  Fortunately, God does not leave us helpless to the effects of stress on our lives.  In God's word, we are able to find encouragement and refreshment at needed times to help us to manage, overcome, and move through the stress produced by life's challenges.  May the following prayerfully selected scriptures be great sources of strength and comfort to you as well as inspiration to those that you encounter along your journey.

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."   John 14:27

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 4:6

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."  Deuteronomy 31:8

"Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
Psalm 103:1-5, NKJV

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."  1 Peter 5: 6,7

"3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday."  Psalm 37:3-6

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:9

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise-in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"   Psalm 56:3-4

"Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?"  Jeremiah 32:27

"28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.   Matthew 11:28-30

May God enrich, encourage, and inspire you as you meditate and reflect on these truths.              NVH
